On this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When animals die, especially ones that have been close to people, they go directly to Rainbow Bridge. At the other side of the bridge, there are meadows and hills wide enough for all our special friends to run and play around on. There’s plenty of food and water to keep our pets as energetic as ever. There’s enough sunshine to keep our friends warm and comfortable.
All the animals that had been ill and old are restored to their healthier and vigorous state. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of the days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing: they each miss someone very special to them, someone they had to leave behind.
They all run and play together, but some days, one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. Its bright eyes are intent. Its eager body quivers. Suddenly, it begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, its legs carrying it faster and faster.
You have been spotted by your loyal companion. When you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress their head. And once more, you look into their trusting eyes, those eyes you haven’t seen for a long time, but were never absent from your heart.
And together, you cross the Rainbow Bridge.
